MARTA route change hearings Monday
BY Ken Edelstein • January 22, 2010
MARTA’s holding public hearings Monday in Atlanta and Decatur on proposed changes to bus routes 1, 18 and 155.
The one-hour meetings start at 7 p.m. and will be held concurrently in the Atlanta City Hall Council Chamber (55 Trinity Ave., Atlanta 30303) and the Decatur City Hall City Commission Room (509 N. McDonough St., Decatur 30031).
The proposed modifications are:
• Route 1: Marietta Boulevard/Centennial Olympic Park will be rerouted inbound to continue on Marietta Street. The Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Ivan Allen Boulevard segments will be discontinued in the inbound direction to resume bi-directional service on Marietta St. The current proposal will restore two-way service on Marietta Street since the roadway construction project has ended.
• Route 18: South Decatur will be rerouted from Georgia State station outbound to avoid a hazardous turn at Piedmont Avenue & Decatur Street caused by new sidewalk construction. The route will continue north along Piedmont Avenue past Decatur Street and turn right onto Edgewood Avenue and then turn right onto Jesse Hill Drive to Decatur Street.; turn left onto Decatur Street and continue over the regular route. Inbound to Georgia State station remains unchanged. Route 18 is currently following this routing as a safety detour that will be made permanent in April if approved by the Board.
• Route 155: McDaniel Street/Lakewood Avenue will also be rerouted from Georgia State station to avoid the hazardous turn at Piedmont Avenue & Decatur Street caused by new sidewalk construction. The route will continue north along Piedmont Avenue past Decatur Street to Edgewood Avenue and turn left to Marietta Street; right to Forsyth Street and continue over the regular route. Inbound to Georgia State Station remains unchanged. Route 155 is currently following this routing as a safety detour that will be made permanent in April if approved by the Board
