2 Ga. carpetmakers among energy pledgers

BY Ken Edelstein • December 12, 2009

Two Georgia carpet manufacturers are among 32 U.S. companies that have pledged to cut energy “intensity” by at least 25 percent over the next decade.

Shaw Industries and Mohawk Industries, both of Dalton, are the only Georgia companies on the list, Treehugger reports.

Under the U.S. Department of Energy Save Energy Now LEADER program, they’ll qualify for technical support from the federal government for making the commitment.

As you may know, Dalton calls itself the “carpet capital of the world” because the U.S. tufted textile industry is concentrated in the town, which is 90 miles north of Atlanta. Dalton also is renowned as the birthplace of yours truly.
