Emory’s new psych hall gets LEED Gold

Emory University continues to lead metro Atlanta in environmentally friendly buildings.
The private school’s new Psychology and Interdisciplinary Sciences Building was completed in May. It becomes the third campus building to receive Gold certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, Emory announced this afternoon.
Among the building’s features:
• Almost all construction waste was “diverted from local landfills by recycling debris.”
• The building’s red-clay roof tiles were recycled from two demolished dormitories.
• And, Emory says, “92 percent of the wood-based building material” in the building were harvested from Forest Stewardship Council certified forests.
LEED is the nation’s leading certification program for environmentally friendly commercial buildings. Its run by the independent U.S. Green Building Program.
