EPA press aide: Franklin not up for Region IV job

EPA Press Secretary Adora Andy says “can’t comment on who is/is not a candidate” for the Region IV administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. But she did shoot down talk that Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin is vying for the post.

“This story is not true,” Andy wrote in response to a set of questions about Franklin. That would seem to rule out discussion among agency employees that Franklin currently is speaking to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson about the job.

Andy wouldn’t answer more specific questions on purported discussions with Franklin or the candidacy of other people. Neither did the mayor. I’m mildly curious whether interest in the job had been expressed on one side or the other but didn’t get anywhere.

I’m more curious at this point, though, about who will be picked for the Region IV. I’ve been told that other candidates include acting regional chief Stanley Meiberg, but have yet to receive a confirmation denial of that. That’s something Andy wouldn’t confirm or deny.

If Andy’s name sounds familiar, by the way, it may be because she’s Adora the former spokeswoman of DeKalb District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming.
